I Am (probably) in the Market for a Video Editor

Some of you have asked me when my “next video” is coming.

tl;dr – I don’t know, but I am open to working with an editor to make it happen

Let me first tell you how I put together those videos that I was writing 3-4 years ago. An idea would pop into my head – great – then I would hammer a script out over the course of a few days. Usually in my free evenings after work. This would usually occur between Tuesday and Thursday. In the meantime, I would be finding clips I could use to create the video. That would occur between Thursday and Saturday.

Then on Sunday, I would marathon editing the entire video. This included recording my narration, putting clips together, re-recording clips, splicing everything together, and editing the final product. It would typically take me 12-14 hours of work and I would push through because I would be so excited about my video that I’d want it published the next day. I scheduled the publishing for midday on a Monday, and that was that. Almost all of those videos I put together within one week.

I don’t really have the bandwidth or desire to do that anymore. I do still have the desire to write (and I have written). But I have a lot of other responsibilities and priorities on my plate that make marathoning that process untenable.

There is a solution, and that is to hire a video editor. I have been resistant to this idea in the past because I like to maintain total control over the final product of my videos. I did the best I could given my limited video editing capabilities and self-imposed time constraints, but at the end of the day I’m quite proud of the video essays I released. I had very specific visions for each of the videos, and for that reason I insisted on editing them by myself from start to finish.

I think at this point, it is unlikely that I’ll release more videos anytime soon unless I hire someone to handle the entire video editing process. And when confronted with the choice of 1) maintaining perfect control and not releasing anything and 2) conceding some artistic control and actually publishing content, I would rather go with 2.

That being said, if you are a video editor or know of a video editor who is interested in a role like this, please reach out via DM. To be clear, I have no “set” schedule of videos for now, as this is a hobby for me and not a job. But I am looking for someone who would be willing to be a partner in the occasional revolutionary content drop. I have specific visions for anything I release (yes, I am a very serious artist who asks important questions like “Can Mario win a local?”) so I would always intend to be hands-on, but I know there are a lot of great artists out there who have their own visions and ideas to bring content like this to the next level. If that sounds like you, hit me up.

See you soon maybe.
